Cára Beard is a firm favourite at her performances with PRZ Live. She began performing at a very young age on the guitar around Hertfordshire, playing venues such as The Priory in Ware and The Hertford Corn Exchange. A decade on, and her sound has evolved from her classical beginnings to pop, rock and country. She now performs at various events as a solo acoustic act, playing covers and original pieces. Accompanied by her trusty guitar and a stomp pedal as a bass drum (‘to keep up tempo’) she describes her set as ‘upbeat, fun and a variety for everyone.’ Her debut EP Gravity came out in late 2014 and more recently she was signed to Warner records as part of a pop duo, Darline. She continues to play a huge variety of venues and events and has supported the likes of Tinie Tempah.
On playing live, Cára loves playing a spectrum of events. However, she says ‘my favourite types of events to perform at are evening gigs, because I love when people dance and sing along.’ Actually, ‘just anywhere people are enjoying themselves and singing!’ She is also happy to learn new material for a particular set. ‘I love learning new covers! It’s great for expanding my set and most of the time people request songs I’ve never thought to try before which is really helpful... I love playing a variety of songs for everyone but will occasionally have the guts to through my original songs in, so it’s really nice when I get positive feedback on my own songs.’
As for influences, Cára says ‘Fleetwood Mac are my idols, I love their songwriting and harmonies, [they’re] so inspiring. My favourite acts are also Haim, Lady Antebellum and Maren Morris.’ Although her country and indie influences are strong, she’s known to perform some classics during her live performances. At weddings, she enjoys performing the likes of ‘Iris’ by The Goo Goo Dolls. For parties, to Cára a solid setlist involves an ‘80s mashup’ including Cyndi Lauper and Whitney Houston… or ‘All Night Long’ by Lionel Richie! If you have any requests, let her know ahead of the event and Cára will work her magic.
